A. Fontaine by Couesnon - Made in France Grenadilla Wood Clarinet - Nickel-plated Keys - Valentino Pads - Mouthpiece, Cap, & Ligature.
This listing is for a vintage A. Fontaine Bb clarinet made by Couesnon Paris. Couesnon was one of the finest French clarinet makers of the 20th century. This student clarinet is no exception - with an absolutely BEAUTIFUL, tight-grained, unstained GRENADILLA WOOD body and extremely sturdy keywork for a student instrument.
I have completely overhauled this clarinet with new Valentino Greenback and Masters Series synthetic pads, all new joint and key corks, and have oiled the body. The keys have a perfect, brand-new, bright nickel-plated finish from an industry leader. The clarinet has high-quality blue needle springs, ZERO CRACKS, and very tight key fitment. For a clarinet of this age (~1950s-1960s), if cracks haven't appeared, they likely never will. I cannot emphasize how extremely fine the wood is. The bore is immaculate with no tooling marks (see pictures), not seen with many modern wood clarinets.
Features:
Fully overhauled and in playing condition (unlike many around this price point!)
High-Quality Grenadilla Wood
Brand-new Nickel Plated Keys
Synthetic Valentino Pads
Blue Needle Springs
New corks and materials - synthetic cork or composite cork for durability where needed.
Original mouthpiece, ligature, and cap
Case Included
This clarinet comes with its original mouthpiece, ligature, and cap. However, I would recommend upgrading these along with the case. Good student mouthpieces include the Clark W. Fobes Debut or a Hite Premier.
I'm an honest seller. Known flaws include cosmetic damage to the bottom bell ring (common issue), minor nicks and scratches, and a longer barrel can be fitted for easier tuning purposes. (I'd recommend an inexpensive one from jdwoodwind.com)
Otherwise, this is a solid student instrument from a bygone era of French clarinet manufacture.
